Sometime last decade, a trip to Delhi from Chennai would cost anything between 10, 000 INR by air. With only limited people – the rich and super rich – having access to it, the fares never came down. Since there was near monopoly by state run Indian Airlines and Air India, it has only added to the bad business model that airlines had.

But, a decade after, with liberalization and with the advent of private budget carriers, fares have not only come down, but also, new routes are introduced to reach the mass. This has given tourism industry a much needed synergy.

And, to make all our lives easier, there are new travel sites coming into business almost one a month! They not only help us get a better deal, they also get us a facility of booking over internet and reduce time, money and paper! These factors reduce money and help run the budget airline in a more stringent manner - with only most needed basic facility. Anything that you get inside the aircraft (including water, in some cases) would be charged.

Well, it all started with Air Deccan coming into business. Now, we have many budget airlines like SpiceJet, IndiGo, GoAir, and JetLite to name a few.

Now, the questions that follow these activities are:

Does India have a great potential of travel industries?

We have witnessed many new airlines coming into existence. But, in this explosive growth, we have nearly forgotten to create basic infrastructure needed or even upgrade existing infrastructure.

Is Indian economy focusing on this industry?

With 8-9% growth in GDP expected this year, I can say a bold YES with proud and necessity that we need this industry that helps saves time in travel and make help business people reach every little town in search of prosperity.

Do we have the right audience?

You give a better infrastructure to people and they will start living with it. It will only help in increasing life standard of people.

Is Indian government ensuring some amount of security?

Yes, the government needs to do a bit more on security keeping in mind the explosive growth in this industry.

When travel investment is becoming more aggressive nowadays?

Travel is not investment, but in view of the growth of this industry, Public private partnership (PPP) on upgrading several Metro airports, is to be a success story for future generation.
